The Source of Relief
I feel relieved when I am with my dog, with my lover and with art. The feelings of compassion, empathy, and beauty defeat that of uncertainty, fear, and anxiety. Whoever wants to free oneself of such negatives and find a way to enjoy life may want to hear what a minimalist painter said:
“I believe in living above the line. Above the line is happiness and love.…Below the line is all sadness and destruction and unhappiness. And I don’t go down below the line for anything.”
Happiness comes from what I appreciate. If I find beauty in a tree, in a dog, in a person, an artwork and more, I can feel happy. Love comes from what I care for. If you care for nature, animals, people, art and more, I will do anything for them because I love them.
The whole point is that the feeling of relief is possible when I do what makes me feel happy and live for what I love. Of course, that should be done under the condition that I don’t give any harm to myself or others. Harm only brings sorrow, deterioration, and doom.
